Family Learning Support
Internet Academy scholars thrive with active support in their home. These tools help parents and learning coaches connect with teachers, grades and progress information, as well as meet state requirements for attending an Alternative Learning Environments.
In-person and Zoom Onboarding sessions are happening throughout the year. Visit the Information Sessions page for days and times.
Canvas Observer
Parents and Learning Coaches use Canvas Observer to communicate with teachers and monitor their scholar's courses, including:
- assignments
- teacher feedback
- announcements
If learning coaches aren't already legal guardians, they'll need access granted by a guardian. Contact the office for help.

ParentVUE
Used for online registration, your ParentVUE account can also access grades and attendance, update communication preferences and contact information, and more.
Zoom Schedule
For accurate attendance, follow this Zoom naming pattern:
First letter of your last name.First name.Grade level.
- example: D.Jodie.5
If you go by a different name than your registered school name, include both.

Report a Zoom Absence
Will your scholar be missing a live Zoom? Report the absence through one of these methods:
- Call 253-945-5803
- ParentVUE
- Email memiller@fwps.org
Include:
- Scholar's full name
- Date of missed Zoom class
- Reason for absence
A daily absence from asynchronous work in Canvas does not need to be reported.
Free Tutoring

Federal Way Public Schools partners with the King County Library System (KCLS) to give every K–12 student free, easy access to KCLS online resources—including Brainfuse HelpNow, a live online tutoring service available in English and Spanish.
