FEDERAL WAY, WA – It was supposed to be a standard school assembly at the Truman Campus today, but the atmosphere quickly shifted from routine to celebratory. The surprise was orchestrated by district leaders and representatives from across the state. Joining the Truman Campus scholars and staff were WEA Chair Debby Chandler and the ESP Action Coordinating Team, who traveled from Spokane to present Brenda with this prestigious statewide honor.

The ESP of the Year award recognizes an individual who demonstrates excellence in their professional practice, commitment to their school community, and leadership in enhancing the image of Education Support Professionals. Brenda’s role as a data secretary is the backbone of the campus, ensuring that the information and systems used to support scholar success are seamless and accurate.

Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer shared her pride in Brenda’s achievement, noting how her work aligns with the district’s core values.

"In Federal Way Public Schools, we believe that our staff are the foundation for our scholars' dreams," said Dr. Pfeiffer. "Brenda embodies our 'Better Together' spirit. Her dedication to excellence and her ability to make every person who walks into the Truman Campus feel seen and valued is exactly what makes our district special. This recognition is a testament to the vital role our ESPs play in creating a supportive learning environment where every scholar can thrive."

Truman Campus Principal Lynn Herink echoed these sentiments, highlighting Brenda’s impact on the school’s daily culture.

"Brenda is so much more than a data secretary; she is the heart of our office," said Principal Herink. "She works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our school runs smoothly, but it’s her heart for our scholars and her colleagues that truly stands out. To see her surprised today by the WEA team was a moment of pure joy for all of us who know how much she gives to this campus every day."
